Tom Morrow has a slightly misaligned left eye. It’s hardly noticeable, but in a small town, hardly noticeable things tend to get noticed. And Junior High can be ruthless. Tom soon discovers, however, that his unique flaw gives him access to a unique ability hyper-perceptual-ism, the power to slow one’s perception of time.
It all starts when Tom attacks three mysterious drunk men for defacing the town statue. In doing so, he unwittingly throws himself into a world where one can summon lightning from the sky.
Tom discovers that his valley isn’t what it seams on the surface…literally. A network of tunnels has been dug right out from under the unsuspecting town. As the clouds turn red, filled with an endless supply of electricity, Tom knows there is something distinctly unnatural about it.
A war of secrets wages and Tom is recruited by a shrouded organization lead by his school principal. He receives help from his friends, Carl the Snarl and Bruce the Juice; as well as an unlikely ally, Tammy, the beautiful (but violent) head cheerleader.
As Tom develops his unique gift, he comes to realize that he may be the only person who can save his quirky, little town from complete annihilation.

I wouldn't classify this book as sci-fi, its a Hardy Boys of the present with some spy tech thrown in. Its written well, good dialog, good story telling, maybe a bit too much descriptive detail here and there. A good book, but a teen book. Adults will find it too simplistic and somewhat absurd. This book is such a great read! I sat down and started reading and couldn't put it down. So many twists and turns, and the ending...wow! This is a must read!
I am very impressed with the author's style. Poulson is definitely a gifted writer. I thoroughly enjoyed it, from beginning to end. Rarely does a book intrigue me as this one has. In fact, I had a hard time putting it down! This may be his first book, but it's certain to be the beginning of a great many more! I am buying several copies to give as gifts. Thanks!
This book was totally great. I bought it shortly after it was published and read it right away. I loved the sense of humor. Very smart and amusing.
I loved this book. I hope that it finally hits the streets and LOTS of kids get to read it. It is funny, SMART and uses a wonderfully wide vocabulary that teens can use and get used to.

Outstanding imaginative book, a cliffhanger... I couldn't guess what was going to happen next. From the mountain cricket game to lighting balls to hero's; I loved it all. Not only was it a fun remarkable story, but I truly enjoyed the creative descriptive style of this book. I would highly recommend it to everyone!
This book kept me reading and reading. It is a story that will keep you wrapped around the characters and take you back to your childhood adventures. I would recommend this book to anyone who is an Engineer and likes to dream. Tom has a great attitude about life and is willing to stick up for the things that he believes in. I would definitely recommend this book to any of my Engineering peers and any aspiring Engineers. Enjoy reading and hopefully this author will have the opportunity to write more books.
Good book - finished it in one day. Enjoyed most all the characters except Tom's mom. Found her to be a distraction. I have difficulty with the disengaged parents that populate this genre - although I guess that none of these kids could have adventures if they were properly parented. I hope there is more to come - there is much to learn!
