A Q&A with Author April M. Reign

Q.You are very prolific. What’s your secret for getting so much work done?

A. My secret is consistency. Every day, I sit in front of my laptop and I write. I may only write 200 words (on a bad day) or 3000 words (on a good day) but there is never a day that goes by when I don’t write.

Q. Who are some of your favorite authors?

A. I fell in love with reading at the age of fourteen. I started the series Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. That series sparked this insatiable need to read more. Over time, I’ve read and enjoyed books by Nora Roberts, Stephen King, James Patterson, Sandra Brown, Jude Deveraux, And many more.

Q. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

A. With the increase of indie authors, there are gems everywhere. I’ve enjoyed books like The Body Departed by J.R. Rain and Divergent by Veronica Roth. I recently read The Edge to Never by J.A. Redmerski.

Q. From the looks of it, you have five series and several standalone books in different genres and you’re branching out into horror. Which genre do you enjoy the most?

A. So far, I’ve written in Romance, Mystery thrillers, Sci-Fi, Urban Paranormal, and supernatural horror. Each genre has fulfilled my need to dabble in categories across the board. I don’t have a favorite genre. I thrive in the elements of the story and the characters. I do have to admit, I love the adrenaline rush of writing a fast-paced fight scene.

HASH The Queen of Ceren Imprint Series Book 3 edition by April M Reign Eve Paludan Romance eBooks Reviews

I am actually sad about this book, it's the third book in the trilogy and it just wasn't as good as the first two.

I'm not really sure what went wrong for me on this book. I mean they escaped Earth and are on their way to Ceren. Aric is supposed to take his place as King and Jade is going to be the Queen. They have some bumps along the way having to try to train Aric in how to be a warrior and stopping at a planet when they see their distress beacon.

There were problems with Jade's baby, but they got that figured out when the baby did a sort of mind meld with Jade. So she gave birth to a healthy baby.

The book just seemed so distant, no pun intended.

There was no reaching the planet and celebrating or learning about the people/aliens. Aric and Jade didn't seem like the same people to me. It's hard to explain. I was hoping for them to get there, get married, have the baby, deal with all kinds of craziness while there but still be themselves.

The ending wasn't what I expected either. It ended as if a continuation but if this is the third in the trilogy then it didn't end that way.

In my opinion I feel like someone hurried the author to push this book out because she did such a wonderful job on the other two books and this didn't seem like her at all.

I still liked the book, just not as awesome as the first two so I'm going with a lower rate, which sucks /

MY REVIEWS

I loved the first two in this trilogy. I waited for months for this one to come out--only to be disappointed. The plot was rushed, and the timeline was confusing. The amount of time passing is not clear, and neither are the activities each of the main characters are engaging in during that time.

Frankly, this was a rushed publication. Some more time given to revision, beta-readers, and editors would have likely made this as good as the first two.

Also (slight spoiler) this is supposed to be a trilogy, but it's lack of resolution made it clear there will be a fourth. If this were as well-written as the first two, maybe that wouldn't be so problematic, or if this one had a true conclusion that left the reader satisfied and then have the option of reading the fourth... sigh.
I enjoyed the complete series
Well written, interesting and held my attention through 3 books in this series. Some slow places, but for the most part action, good plot, and characters I now feel invested in; and will be purchasing the next book when it comes out.
THIS WAS I THOUGHT THE END OF THE SERIES BUT THERE WILL BE ONE MORE IT WAS VERY GOOD, BUT YOU HAVE TO READ THE FIRST TWO BOOKS IN THE SERIES TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON
The third book is almost like reading a completely different series. The POV is different, the location, and basically the plot too. They are no longer escaping the institute, they are travelling to Aric’s world aboard a spaceship. The book is told from multiple points of view. Aric, Jade, Teeter, and Em’s. I love when books have multiple POV’s but this one is once again rushed and hollow feeling.
Everything is explain by the implant, or imprint as they call it now. It doesn’t feel like anything is lead up to, it’s just thrust upon you and as soon as you question it – imprint.
The main characters, Jade and Aric, are completely unlikeable. You do not want them to win. Aric is an arrogant jerk. He walks around bossing everyone around and thumping his chest claiming he is better than everyone because he is the King, yet he doesn’t know crap. It gets old and you want him to get punched in the face and fail.
Jade is locked up for years in the institute unfairly because of her imprint. She completely forgets all about Copeland (who isn’t even mentioned in the book until 60% of the way thru) who happens to be locked up in their prison for his imprint. And there is no irony here. She basically tells him she completely forgot about him. Humans are said to have the intelligence of a Ceren infant yet Jade is smarter than everyone around her. It doesn’t make sense except for her imprint, which everyone has now and they know how to use it, so it doesn’t fix the problem. They tell you the first 5 years of their life as a Ceren is spent learning to use the imprint. Yet a species of a lower intelligence can get it in a couple months? Insert the eye roll here.
The plot holes are so glaring that the entire book (SERIES!!!) is a waste of time! On Ceren they use the imprint to link into their past relatives and learn thru their experiences. Yet all of a sudden Aric has a brother, who has an imprint, and neither of them know. Who was Teeter (yes, Teeter) linking to in the past? It’s only hinted (slammed in your face) that they are brothers in the same chapter it is revealed in. No build up. It is SO obvious that he will be his brother than a human without an imprint could see it coming. /
And if the Royal family had a second child (that NO ONE SAW IN THE IMPRINT WHEN THEY WERE EXPERIENCING THE PAST!) then why wasn’t he ruling? And for that matter who was ruling for the last 16 years?!! And it is later said that he was left to rule?
Another problem? The technology and trying to be all sci-fi. These aliens are so advanced they can travel thru and save multiple galaxies and rule over them all yet they still use door handles, halogen bulbs, and LED lighting. Oh, and apparently their clock is the same because they use terms to describe where something is like “at 3 o’clock”. They even mention that one planet they land on has 7 hours of day and 32 hours of night (or something like that, not worth looking up the exact timing).
The undying love between Aric and Jade is not felt either. All of a sudden they are referring to each other as, My Love, every other sentence. She is barely surviving a tricky pregnancy and he dips out for a couple months?!! When he returns he finds out she has locked herself in her room for all that time. No one knows if she is dead or alive. How did she eat? What happened to all the communication equipment they described earlier? And when Aric gets there he figures it all out by saying reset the computer code on her door lock. Damn. An advanced race could not figure that out?
I won’t even get started on the “Marked” problems. Ugh. That was the last straw. If they wanted that to be an actual thing they should have given us the premise earlier. Not just “BAM” oh by the way this happens with no explanation. Horrible.
But the worst is the fact that YET again, no ending. Although a better stopping point this time – Forever.
Each of the three volumes and cliffhangers and number three continues the tradition. Most of the characters develop as the stories role out, there are so many twists and turns that it is very hard to put the book down until suddenly you have arrived at the end of the volume on your scrambling for the next one. I heartily recommend it to all who enjoy romantic science fiction.
